8:40 a.m. “The Global Economic Outlook Ten Years After the Financial Crisis”
Ten years ago, a garden variety recession that had begun in December 2007 morphed into the worst global financial crisis and economic downturn since the 1930s Great Depression. During the past decade, the economic and political fallout from this unfortunate meltdown has been painful—and will likely continue to be felt for many years to come. While the outlook for the US economy has become brighter recently, in other parts of the world the challenges remain daunting.
Nariman Behravesh
Chief Economist
IHS Markit
9:05 a.m “The Manufacturing Renaissance: Where do we stand?”
A recent study examined labor content, logistics costs and productivity differences and uncovered a “tipping point” in cost-risk among seven key industries: computers, appliances, machinery, furniture, fabricated metals, plastic & rubber products and transportation goods. Thus, these industries have the greatest potential to “re-shore” to the USA. We examine the status (and likely future) of these industries in an age of trade tensions. We will also examine challenges and opportunities for US manufacturing.
Kevin Swift
Chief Economist & Managing Director
American Chemistry Council
9:30 a.m “Dynamics of Loan Markets in Community Banks”
Community depositories are rapidly losing market share to nonbanks and fin-tech lenders. Mr. Toohig will discuss how this new dynamic is changing the lending landscape and where community banks can still gain a strategic foothold to compete against these lesser regulated lenders.
